NPI development & production transfer

Your NPI.
From plan to production.

HAKERN manages the manufacturing engineering for your new product introduction—from process planning and fixture design through programming, first-run prove-out, and transfer to your production machines.

A complete NPI engagement

We handle the development.
You gain a process to build on.

Engage HAKERN for the complete manufacturing development scope, from the first process plan to the NPI run and production handoff. Deliverables, responsibilities, and acceptance criteria are agreed in the project quote.

01 / Plan

Process planning

Manufacturing routing, operation sequence, setup strategy, datum structure, and the key controls for the component.

02 / Hold

Fixture design

Workholding concepts, fixture models, and detail drawings developed around the part, machining approach, and equipment.

03 / Document

Operation / MOT drawings

Operation drawings and manufacturing instructions that define setup conditions, in-process requirements, and the intended sequence.

04 / Program

CNC programming

Mastercam development, posted NC programs, setup instructions, and tool sheets for the agreed machines and controls.

05 / Prove out

First-run development

Run the agreed NPI quantity on the designated development equipment, refine the process, and document findings and changes.

06 / Transfer

Production handoff

Adapt and verify the process for the receiving production machines, then hand over the agreed files, instructions, and revision records.

How the project runs

Plan the transfer
from the beginning.

The development equipment and receiving production machines are identified early so the NPI work supports the way you intend to manufacture the part.

  1. 01

    Define the project

Review the part, quantities, equipment, responsibilities, deliverables, and acceptance requirements.

  2. 02

    Develop the process

Create the routing, fixtures, operation drawings, tooling approach, and CNC programs.

  3. 03

    Run & refine

Carry out the agreed first-run prove-out, incorporate findings, and record the established process.

  4. 04

    Transfer & hand over

Address machine differences, verify the receiving setup, and complete the agreed production handoff.

The manufacturing package

The knowledge stays
with the handoff.

The final package captures what was developed, what was learned during prove-out, and what the production team needs to execute the agreed process.

  • Process plan, routing, and operation / MOT drawings
  • Fixture CAD models, detail drawings, and workholding information
  • Native Mastercam files and machine-specific NC programs
  • Detailed setup instructions, tool sheets, and assembly details
  • Prove-out findings, revisions, and recorded cycle-time assumptions
  • Transfer requirements and agreed verification records

Inspection planning, first-article support, and customer-specific documentation can be included where agreed. Release to production follows the project’s verification and customer approval requirements.

Project-based delivery

One project scope.
Clear responsibilities.

We quote the NPI engagement as a defined project, with agreed milestones from planning through prove-out and transfer.

Development work is planned around customer equipment or an agreed manufacturing partner. The proposal identifies responsibility and pricing for material, fixture manufacture, cutting tools, machine time, inspection, and any outside processing.

Differences in machine configuration, controls, tooling, and workholding are reviewed during transfer. Programs and setup instructions are adapted and verified for the receiving equipment before the agreed release.

What helps shape the project

  • Part requirements and current development status
  • NPI run quantity and intended production volumes
  • Development equipment and receiving production machines
  • Available tooling, fixtures, and inspection resources
  • Required documentation, acceptance criteria, and timing
